Myanmar Survey Research

MSR is locally owned and managed. Key staff hold MA degrees from international universities in Japan, Australia, Germany or USA. Our full-time team consists of 92 Myanmar locals and 2 expats. We also employ over 150 freelancers to conduct nation-wide studies.

Win Tin Win (Chairman)

He is the founder of MSR – before the company was officially established. During the years he felt more and more attracted to the media world. For many years he
provided foreign media with videos and reports from Myanmar. Today he is enjoying fishing at his quiet beach place, teaching English or writing English language books for children.

Kyaw Hlaing (President & Research Director)

U Kyaw Hlaing is the President and Research Director of Myanmar Survey Research.  He is an expert in Myanmar Business as he has conducted research projects on various industries since 1995.  Many of his researches are related to FDI and investment climate in Myanmar.  Invited by JETRO, he gave a seminar at the JETRO headquarter for Japanese companies in Tokyo in September 2012 on investment opportunities in infrastructure projects in Myanmar. He was also a speaker at the Asian Leadership Round Table of the Asian Financial Forum held in Hong Kong in January 2013.

U Kyaw Hlaing is a co-founder of the Myanmar Think Tank and he is the president of the Myanmar Market Research Association.  He was conferred the Degree of Master of Arts in International Relations from the International University of Japan and he studied Marketing at UCSD in the USA.  He is a passionate golfer, too.
 

U Maung Than (Research Program Director)

He was with MSR since the early days – even before the company was officially established. U Maung Than has vast experience with Social Research but also Industry Research. He has an expert knowledge about the Myanmar trade and manufacturing industry.

San Tun Aung, Ph.D. (Research Director)

He was a consultant to Myanmar Survey Research for three years, 2008 to 2010, and he joined MSR again as Research Director in October, 2013. Before joining MSR, he served with UN-Habitat as Monitoring and Reporting Specialist from October 2012 to September 2013, IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies), Myanmar Delegation Yangon 

Marita-Schimpl (Head of Marketing Research)

Marita holds a MA in Psychology. She started her career with GfK in Germany 17 years ago. Before she joined MSR she had leading (global) positions in marketing, research & planning with Nestlé and Imperial Tobacco – to mention a few.
Marita has been to most Asian countries and loves to explore different (sub-)cultures.

As the Esomar Representative for Myanmar she is determined to bring Myanmar on to the research map and train talent.

Ye Nyunt (Director)

He is equipped with a B.Sc. in Physics, a German Diploma in Journalism and a Japanese MA in Political Economy. Before he joined MSR he worked for many years in the media industry. Ye Nyunt has broad experience especially in Social Research.
 

U Hla Shwe (Media Analyst)

He used to be the headmaster of a government high school and a Township Education Officer before he joined MSR. He monitors parliamentarian discussions, main media and macroeconomic developments in Myanmar to be used for MSR reports.
 

Dr Aung Myoe (Advisor)

He used to work for MSR but is now Associate Dean at the department for International Relations at the International University of Japan. He taught at Mandalay University and was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies in Singapore. Dr Aung Myoe is still our advisor for social & political topics.
